We are pleased to announce that the winners of our January 2024 Employer of the Month are Newmor Morland. Following a nomination by our Business Engagement Advisor Karen Harris-Vernon, Newmor Morland were chosen by the panel as January’s winners for their engagement and commitment to training and upskilling of their staff across a range of subjects.
A FEW WORDS FROM KAREN HARRIS-VERNON, BUSINESS ENGAGEMENT ADVISOR, ON NEWMOR MORLAND’S EMPLOYER OF THE MONTH NOMINATION…
“Newmor, Morland and IPG are 3 manufacturing businesses under the same ownership based in Welshpool, Powys, who are passionate about giving their staff the tools to do their jobs now and in the future.
They have worked with NPTC over recent years to train, develop and upskill their workforce across a variety of subject areas including IOSH Managing Safely and Mental Health First Aid Levels 1 and 2. They also have a Business Admin apprentice though Pathways Training and are undertaking a Train the Trainer course, demonstrating their commitment to ongoing learning for their team.
They have focused their efforts in recent times on Health, Safety, and Wellbeing and have ensured that they have the right support in place in each of their 3 sites. Compliance Manager Robbie Williams has been an integral part in championing this particular activity in our regular meetings.
Rachel and Julie who head up HR and training within the organisation have been at the forefront of skills development in North Powys and across Mid Wales. Rachel is a founding member of the North Powys Employer Forum and, with Julie, has attended and contributed regularly since then. Both Rachel and Julie have also attended the Employer In Residence Career Bureau in Newtown, giving their time to support our students to become career-focused and work-ready. They hosted a recent open day at one site and we organised a trip for our students who were made very welcome, shown how to get to grips with the world of work, and encouraged to perhaps be employees of the future.
The working relationship between Rachel, Julie, and myself as a BEA has always been a positive and productive one and I am confident this will continue. I believe that they see NPTC as a natural provider of choice across a number of areas and always ask if we can provide courses and training or signpost to others as appropriate. Newmor Morland won the Growth Award in the Powys Business Awards 2022 and met a local social enterprise ‘The Game Change Project’ who work with young people who struggle within the normal education system. As a result, they adopted them as their charity to support in 2023, attending events, undertaking activities and supporting and mentoring staff and students.
Newmor Morland is at the heart of the community it serves and has a great track record of employing local people and developing them to go on to have careers within the organisation. I am proud that we have helped and will continue to be able to help towards this development.”

“Our relationship with Newtown College is positive and we are pleased to continue to support our current/future employees by offering training so that they are able to reach their full potential and grow within the business. We are passionate about promoting from within, and the courses on offer provide invaluable assistance for this.
We are keen to continue to support the college by attending the Employer in Residence so that we are able to build relationships with the students, which hopefully will lead to future employment.
Our BEA, Karen, is always a great help and continues to offer support to our business and we are delighted to receive this nomination. ”
