Building Engineering Services

The School of Building Engineering Services has extensive links with employers and businesses within Wales.

Even more, we offer a wide range of full-time and part-time courses plus commercial programmes designed to meet the needs of this highly innovative and fast-moving industry.

Four of our sites include:

Afan College

Higher Education in Construction and Built Environment

For the most part, the HE courses at Afan College will meet the needs of those aspiring to a professional and technical career in construction and civil engineering.

Equally, these will serve as a route to full-time employment within the industry.

They involve architecture, building engineering services, quantity surveying, site management, building surveying, bridge engineering, highway design, and marine engineering.

Besides this, Afan College delivers electro-technical courses from Level 1 to 3 accompanied by electrical and electronics engineering for industry.

The advanced workshops and classrooms enable lecturers to deliver quality training with the latest equipment and ensure that learners are prepared for this ever-changing sector.

Also, we offer the opportunity to retrain in the electrical industry in preparation for a career change or upskill Professional Development.

In sum, we are an established NICEIC training centre that offers a range of electro-technical CPD.

The Energy Centre

Gas Technology

Developed in one of the largest centres in Wales, the Energy Centre at NPTC Group of Colleges contains Certsure LLP Gas Safe ACS training and assessment centre. Besides this, we operate EUIAS-approved training for Smart Meters.

As a result, the Energy Centre is recognised by the awarding body as a ‘Centre of Excellence’.

In particular, our facilities are regularly updated to ensure that the best training and assessment opportunities are used.

Fire Sprinkler Qualifications and Training

We are the first college to develop a Fire Sprinkler Training Area and the only BAFSA Approved Training Centre in South Wales.

Along with this, we have upskilling professional development qualifications for the mechanical services trades that are delivered through the Welsh Government’s Fire Sprinkler Measure for Wales.

From this qualification, you will indeed gain the best training in workshop facilities with expert trainers and assessors, ensuring that you are industry-ready.

Neath College

Construction and the Built Environment

This Level 3 course is aimed at aspiring professional and technical occupations in construction and civil engineering.

The course serves as a route to full-time employment within the industry and provides a progression route into Higher Education, including the HNC at NPTC Group of Colleges.

Above all, employment in the construction and civil engineering sector are limitless.

More specifically, these include architecture, building engineering services, quantity surveying, site management, building surveying, land surveying, bridge engineering, highway design, and marine engineering.

Plumbing courses

At Neath College, we deliver full-time plumbing courses at Levels 1 and 2, delivering practical skills that prepare you for the industries of plumbing, heating, and ventilation.

Concerning assessments, we aim to provide learners with the best start in a career of leading craft skills.

Each classroom features modern teaching resources and facilities to ensure all learners are motivated in their working environment.

Newtown College

Electrical and Plumbing Courses

Newtown College provides full and part-time courses in electrical and plumbing from Levels 1 to 3.

Moreover, our advanced workshops and classrooms enable us to deliver quality training and utilise the latest techniques and equipment to ensure students are ready for this ever-growing industry.

Apprenticeship Training Courses

The work-based training and apprenticeships are taught at the same facilities as our full-time courses.

The modern workshops incorporate all training and assessment opportunities to complete your trade qualifications.

All teaching classrooms are complete with cutting edge teaching resources with industry-experienced staff providing the latest in developments.

Swansea Construction Centre

Plumbing Apprenticeship Training

We are part of a large training centre which provides courses in other areas of construction. Our work-based training and apprenticeships are based at our Craft Training Centre in Llansamlet, Swansea.

Also, each workshop is updated with training facilities in Environmental Technologies and Underfloor Heating courses.

All teaching classrooms are complete with ultra-modern teaching resources.

Besides that, we have a five-a-side football pitch which can be enjoyed during your study breaks.

Where do I start?

The School of Building Engineering Services offers programmes of study from Level 1 to Level 3.

Applications can be made online, with an additional interview process involved to see if the course is suitable for you.

Furthermore, we have the facility for Welsh speakers to engage in a Welsh-only provision through our online VLE Welsh speaker toolbox forum, which any student can access if desired.
