Music Academy

Extra-curricular activities:

Orchestra, Funk Band, Cajun Street Band
Jazz Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, String Ensemble
Chamber ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble
Vocal Ensemble/Choir
Oxbridge preparation
Advanced theory up to and beyond Grade 8 ABRSM

All of the above activities take place either after college or during mutually arranged times within the week. There are often extra rehearsals. We perform at least three main concerts per year with proceeds in two of these to charities.

In addition, we participate in the National Festival of Music For Youth-Regional and National events in Newport and Birmingham and many of the musicians have opportunities to perform as soloists in a range of other competitions such as the Margam Abbey Music Foundation competition, Roger Chilcott competition, the Urdd and as part of ensembles in the Abertawe Festival for Young Musicians.

We are fortunate to have visiting and in-house instrumental and vocal tutors for all students with one-to-one tuition each week on their chosen instrument/voice. Furtherly, students will be entered for appropriate Graded music examinations from Grade 5 and upwards.

We also provide all students with one-to-one tuition on their chosen instrument/voice for 30 minutes a week. Our peripatetic team is leading professional musicians/vocalists who have all trained and/or performed at the highest levels within their specific fields.

The students also perform in other events within the community, including the Neath Male Voice Choir Annual concert each November. Many students also receive a financial scholarship of £500 and there is a Music Student of the Year award of £300 annually.
