Course Overview
We are excited to offer a one-year GCSE English Language evening course designed specifically for mature students who want to improve their original GCSE English grade or gain their GCSE qualification. Whether you’re looking to enhance your career opportunities or further your education, this course will equip you with essential skills in speaking, reading, and writing.
Once you have signed up for the course, you will be expected to attend weekly evening classes where you will explore a broad range of materials and topics, preparing you for a speaking exam in the winter term and two written exams at the end of May and early June. Regular attendance and dedication to the lessons are essential for success.
Within this course, your speaking, reading, and writing skills will be assessed through five key assessments. Students will also work with a variety of texts, including more challenging ones which can contain high-level vocabulary.

Summary of Outcomes
A majority of professions require a C in GCSE English as a minimal entry requirement. To begin a PGCE you require a B in GCSE English.

• Understanding how language works and the rules for speaking and writing.
• Learning how to change speech and writing for different situations, purposes, and audiences.

• Improving your ability to think critically and respond to different types of texts.
• Developing proofreading and editing skills.

Students must be aged 16 or over. Students under the age of 19 require a minimum of a D grade to apply for the course. -
Method of Assessment
The English language (Wales) GCSE is made up of two equally weighted externally assessed units, and one internally assessed unit. The two externally assessed units test Reading and Writing skills, whilst the internally assessed unit tests Oracy skills. This specification is untierd.
Method of Assessment - Assessment is by two 2 hour examinations and an internally assessed and externally moderated Oracy module.
