New Funding Available: Skills for the Workplace

A major new investment in workforce development has been announced with the launch of the Skills for the Workforce project, a £5.5 million initiative designed to deliver high-level skills and training across South West Wales.

Led by a strategic partnership between Gower College Swansea, Coleg Sir Gar, NPTC Group of Colleges, Pembrokeshire College, and the South West Wales Regional Learning & Skills Partnership (RLSP), the project will support individuals entering the labour market and those already in employment to gain qualifications at Levels 3–5 in key growth sectors.

The project will focus on occupational areas aligned with the Swansea Bay City Deal, including:

  • Energy
  • Green Construction
  • Advanced and Smart Manufacturing
  • Digital and ICT
  • Health and Care

Delivering Impact

Over the course of the pilot (2025–2027), the project aims to achieve:

  • 6,000 higher-level qualifications
  • 600 individuals gaining additional skills
  • 3,000 apprenticeships supported
  • 80 new or updated training frameworks

This initiative responds to the region’s growing demand for skilled workers and addresses gaps left by previous projects such as the £19 million European Funded Skills for Industry project.

Whether you’re starting out, changing careers, or aiming to progress in your current role, or you’re an employer preparing your workforce for future challenges, this is your chance to gain valuable skills and qualifications.
