We are excited to announce the launch of our comprehensive Hydrogen Safety Training courses, designed to equip individuals and organizations with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the evolving green energy sector safely. As the UK’s first Ofqual-registered hydrogen qualifications, these courses offer a structured learning path to understand the fundamentals and safety practices of hydrogen.
Level 1: Award in Introduction to Hydrogen Safety Practices
This introductory course lays the foundation for understanding hydrogen’s role in the energy landscape. Over two days of guided study, participants will explore:
- Hydrogen production methods and properties
- Safe storage and transportation requirements
- Current hydrogen policies and adoption benefits
- Principles of risk assessment related to hydrogen
- Safe manual handling and health risk awareness
Ideal for anyone interested in the green energy sector, this course requires no prior knowledge and culminates in a multiple-choice assessment.
Level 2: Award in Introduction to Hydrogen Safety Practices
Building upon the Level 1 course, this three-day program delves deeper into hydrogen safety. Participants will gain a more detailed understanding of:
- Advanced hydrogen production methods and properties
- In-depth safety practices for working with, storing, and transporting hydrogen
- Comprehensive risk assessments and health risk management
This course is suited for professionals, educators, and apprentices with prior knowledge or potential direct contact with hydrogen. Assessment includes both multiple-choice and written questions.
Both courses are delivered face-to-face or in-person, offering flexibility to meet diverse learning preferences. Upon completion, participants will receive an Ofqual-regulated qualification, enhancing their credentials in the green energy sector.
Working closely with education providers, industry leaders and policy makers, we know that the transition to more sustainable ways of working will create opportunity. College Groups like NPTC will be in the best position to make the most of this and to drive positive change to the benefit of everyone involved.”

Expanding Our Hydrogen Safety Training Provision
We are committed to expanding our hydrogen safety training offerings. In addition to our Level 1 and Level 2 courses, we are looking to introduce the Level 3 Award in Introduction to Hydrogen Safety Practices. This advanced qualification will build on existing knowledge, providing learners with a more comprehensive understanding of hydrogen safety, regulations, and industry best practices.
More details about the Level 3 course will be announced soon, and we encourage those interested in advancing their hydrogen safety expertise to stay tuned for updates.
By equipping businesses with these qualifications, we enable them to understand the potential benefits, mitigate risks, and leverage hydrogen technology to enhance their operations and drive innovation.”
