In a world where tragic events like Hillsborough and Manchester serve as poignant reminders of the importance of ongoing vigilance, one individual’s journey has led to a significant contribution towards ensuring spectator safety in Wales. Jayne Jones, Head of Business Development at NPTC Group of Colleges, with a background in health, safety and training, recognised the need for proactive measures to help prevent future disasters and enhance safety protocols in event settings.
Forming the Business Development Unit at NPTC Group of Colleges in 2017, coupled with her experience with sports and safety stewardship, created the opportunity to make a difference. Collaborating with leading providers of spectator safety training in Wales, JHM Training, a range of comprehensive training programs for stewards across Welsh stadia was launched.
The collaboration between NPTC Group of Colleges and JHM Training & Consultancy Ltd, has provided the opportunity for stewards, supervisors, and event safety managers to access high-quality training and gain qualifications. Together, they have worked with organisations including The Welsh Rugby Union, the Football Association of Wales, professional football clubs, regional rugby clubs, and private security/safety companies to ensure a fully trained safety workforce for event attendees.
Together, NPTC Group of Colleges’ Business Development Unit and JHM Training & Consultancy Ltd, with the support of the Welsh Government, have a shared this commitment to enhancing spectator safety in the event landscape. To date, over 1000 stewards have received Spectator Safety Training. This milestone signifies a significant step towards ensuring the safety of spectators attending events in Wales.
With the support and enthusiasm of Jayne Jones the head of the Business Unit we have been able to provide training and qualifications to organisations including The Welsh Rugby Union, the Football Association of Wales, professional football clubs, regional rugby clubs and private security/safety companies thereby ensuring that those people who attend these events as spectators can expect a safety workforce that is fully trained and able to keep them safe.
