Course Overview

This work-based qualification is designed for individuals responsible for carrying out skilled wood-based tasks on construction sites or in workshop environments. It recognises competence across a wide range of wood occupations, including site carpentry, shopfitting site work, shopfitting bench work, pre-assembled roof structure installation, and timber frame erection.

  • Entry Requirements

    Delegates must be employed in a role that allows them to generate workplace evidence.

  • Summary of Outcomes

    Successful delegates gain the opportunity to progress into advanced carpentry or shopfitting roles, and Specialist wood-based occupations (e.g., structural timber framing, bench joinery).

  • Course Modules

    This course covers:

    Mandatory Units:
    - Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace
    - Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
    - Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace

    Pathway 1 - Site Carpentry (minimum of 3 required):
    - Installing first fixing components in the workplace
    - Installing second fixing components in the workplace
    - Erecting structural carcassing components in the workplace
    - Maintaining non-structural carpentry work in the workplace
    - Installing fire resisting timber door assemblies and doorsets in the workplace
    - Setting up and using transportable cutting and shaping machines in the workplace

    Pathway 2 - Shopfitting site work (minimum of 3 required):
    - Installing shopfitting frames and finishings in the workplace
    - Installing shopfitting fitments in the workplace
    - Installing shopfronts and finishings in the workplace
    - Installing fire resisting timber door assemblies and doorsets in the workplace
    - Setting up and using transportable cutting and shaping machines in the workplace

    Pathway 3 - Shopfitting Bench Work (minimum of 1 optional required):
    - Marking out from setting out details for routine shopfitting products in the workplace
    - Manufacturing routine shopfitting products in the workplace
    - Producing setting out details for routine shopfitting products in the workplace (Optional)
    - Setting up and using transportable cutting and shaping machines in the workplace (Optional)

    Pathway 4 - Complex Suspended Ceiling Systems:
    - Erecting timber roof structures in the workplace
    - Slinging and hand signalling the movement of suspended loads in the workplace
    - Erecting roof structure carcassing components in the workplace

    Pathway 5 - Stretched Ceilings:
    - Erecting timber walls and floors in the workplace
    - Erecting timber roof structures in the workplace
