Course Overview
This course is ideal for electricians and domestic installers looking to up skill and provide services to the growing renewable energy sector. If you are registered with a competent person scheme it will support your application to become MCS registered.
This solar PV installation and maintenance course offers more hands on training of actual installation than most other BPEC courses. As such you will leave our centre confident in your ability to design and install solar PV.
This course is focused on UK based grid connected systems. During the classroom based sessions you will cover the following:
Photovoltaic Panels in context of Renewable Technologies
How a Photovoltaic System Works – Principles and Components
Design of a PV System
Installation of a PV System
Commissioning and Client Hand-Over
Maintenance and Fault Finding
On the last day of the course you will take your assessments. This will involve connecting up real solar panels to live inverters in our center and ensuring they are all working correctly.
Key practical skills learnt and assessed will be:
How to plan and prepare for installation
How to install the roof array
How to install cabling, inverter and AC supply
Schedule of inspections
PV array tests
Commission the system including; electrical installation certs, schedule of test results, DNO notification, Handover system
Fault finding and rectification

Entry Requirements
Trainees should hold a formal craft qualification e.g. N/SVQ 3 in Electrical Installation (Buildings and Structures) or equivalent earlier certification that includes Inspection & Testing or a recognised Part P competence certification that includes Inspection & Testing. Trainees MUST also hold a BS 7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations (18th Edition) qualification.
You will be required to provide evidence on the first day of the course as so please ensure you bring all of your qualification certificates and any evidence of membership such as Gold card or Part P Scheme Membership.

Method of Assessment
Assessments normally consist of a combination of practical and theory examinations.
The time allocated to each are as follows:2 x Multi-choice question Paper 1: 1 hour 30 minutes
Short Written Paper 2: 1 hour
Practical Assessment: 3 hoursRecognised as a demonstration of competence for the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).
